Welcome to the Orange County
Dungeons & Dragons Meetup!
About Us
We're folks who enjoy face to face roleplaying games. The most popular game is Dungeons and Dragons, a game set in medieval times with magical and fantasy elements.
Most of us are normal, everyday people that are fun and interesting to talk with. When you attend our Meetups, the talk is often not about gaming, but delves into topics such as music, media, society, just to name a few. Of course we always enjoy talking about gaming!
About Dungeons and Dragons
From Wikipedia (
http://en.wikipedia.o... ):
Players of D&D create characters who embark upon imaginary adventures within a fantasy setting. A Dungeon Master (DM) serves as the game's referee and storyteller, while also maintaining the setting in which the adventures occur. When the players meet for a game session, they listen to descriptions of their character's perceptions, knowledge, and choices from the DM and describe their actions in response. The characters form a party that interacts with the setting's inhabitants (and each other), solves dilemmas, engages in battles, and gathers treasure and knowledge. In the process the characters earn experience points to become increasingly powerful as the game progresses. D&D departs from traditional wargaming by assigning each player a specific character, as opposed to an army. Miniature figures or markers on a grid are sometimes used to represent these characters.
What Goes on at Meetups
We don't play games at our monthly Meetup. We meet at a public restaurant where gaming would be a bad idea to do for many reasons.
We match players with games. We help people find games, and help Gamemasters find players. The best way to do this is to come to our Meetups and get to know people. As most games are played in people's homes, it may take several visits before you're invited to play. Other factors include reliability, experience, style of play, age, dates and times for play, and distance between you and the game (OC is a big county).
We discuss games. We may talk about what we like or don't like about D&D, discuss tips and tricks for better gaming, and recount stories of our gaming adventures (something I suggest doing in moderation). Sometimes we talk about game theory and how to make better games. It's all fair game.
Socialize. Sometimes we just talk about general life stuff. Gamers tend to be interesting people, and are doing cool stuff.
