I usually frequent Table Top Game & Hobby. It's located at
6840 w 105th Street Overland Park, KS 913.962.4263 http://www.tabletopga... which is 105th and Metcalf, in the same shopping center as the Winstead's, on the east side. They have a solid selection of board games, RPGs, wargames, card games, miniatures, et cetera and what I really appreciate is that the staff is helpful and can be found behind the register instead of playing games in the back and making you feel unwelcome for bothering them (which has happened to me at other stores in the past). They also have a large gaming room and host events regularly. It might be a great spot to have some Johnson County meetups if people are so inclined. |

Jacob, Will Phil permit a meetup game to be scheduled at this store? It would be a great location for the gamers in that area to D&D. Could you run the game you mention there?

Danger Will Robinson...
The staff is friendly and helpful, as well as the owner, although he is a bit quirky. ie. he won't let you touch any dice... forbids role-play speak in games... He says the gaming room is open to customers at any time... that is, except D&D players. They require an invite by him and he must be present when playing. A bit odd. That was about 6 weeks ago. I don't know if things have changed since. I've been trying to soften him up about that (talk to him about it every time I go in,... send numerous friends over to ask if they can play D&D, etc). It seems that he used to allow D&D, but one night when they were playing (and speaking), several moms with their cub scouts came in for a boardgame and got freaked out about the whole D&D affair. Instead of explaining, I guess he just banned it. Even weirder, if you talk to him about D&D, he pushes 4e like mad, and will speak to you about the pro's of it over 3.5 for as long as you want to listen. Go figure, maybe that's his business side speaking. Other than that issue, it's a good place to get books and supplies (older stuff is really discounted), and is, pretty much, the only place I go to when not shopping online. But, so far, I haven't been able to play D&D there. -Buzz I usually frequent Table Top Game & Hobby. It's located at |

Wow, that must be a recent development. When I floated the idea back in the fall, he seemed okay with it. I might go in on a weekend and try speaking to one of the clerks; they tend to be a little more outgoing with why these things happened.
If Phil had a bad experience with D&D players, that's a shame, though if we could change his mind I really feel like the store would be a great resource. |

Pulp Fiction in Lee's Summit is great. Andrew is super friendly and loves to have people gaming in his immense back room. He sells comics, too, but gaming is the reason he started the store, so he's always extremely kind to gamers of all sorts. I know for a fact that he likes D&D players and lets them play however they want as long as they don't get rowdy.

I've heard that Pulp Fiction is a gamer friendly place. I have never been there, but will try to see the store soon. I like to spend my limited game budget where my hobby is appreciated!
Tabletop would also be a great place to game, but it sounds like Phil likes D&D players' cash, but not the players? Buzz describes Phil as quirky, and I agree. When you talk to him it is all about his mood at the moment. I've not gamed at Phil's since he had the old store in Lenexa (was it on Quivera?). Back then he only permitted D&D on Friday nights, and it was by invitation only. I'd hoped that he had loosened up his restrictions in his new location. Ryan games at 31st Century Games in Olathe, which might be a better location that Tabletop. It certainly sounds like it is friendlier! Let us know if you have any luck at Tabletop, Jacob. Nate |

It's a bit out of the way, unless in the area, but I stumbled upon this place when looking for a D&D book.
Gator's Video, Leavenworth, KS http://maps.google.co... They have regular games on Wednesdays. - A lot of kids there, though. 2-4 10-13 year olds at each game. That was my only turn off. They sell all the 4e stuff, miniatures, and can order anything. Edited by User 8,842,349 on Feb 14, 2009 7:01 PM |

There is also 31st Century Games and Hobby in Olathe off of 151st and Mur-Len. I haven't been there an a few months as it is a bit of a drive for me now, but the last time I went there was a good sized D&D game going on (a good 10-15 people playing). Joe is a pretty easy going guy, I could talk to him next time I go in and see if he wouldn't mind more games being played there for the Olathe/Overland Park crowd.
I've been in Table Top a few times and the owner has always been really helpful when I have questions about DMing (writing up my first campaign, will be posting here in a month or so looking for players). Last time I was in there he mentioned that they were planning on doing something for World Wide D&D day in June/July, so maybe his position on gaming in the store has changed? |
