letter found on the body of the frost giant Hanz
Hanz, Go forth and secure Dukrbek. Take the ogres and meet up with the Desert Bull Tribe and have them guard the giant kin as they transport the supplies. Take a few of the captured swine we gathered from the surrounding farmlands of Two Oaks and use them as labor to build the barracks I tasked you with. As you see fit feed any of those swine you choose to my minions. I have sent a scout to Brokenwagonwheelford. She shall report to me on the statues of those held up in the Tavern for there is something now blocking my all seeing eye. Remember Thyrm only blesses those who are strong, so do not fail. The Desert Bull Tribe is now seeking any underground passages below the Town of Two Oaks. If there is one found then this shall give us advantage if Bloodcrown does not bow to the will of Thyrm. Even as I write this missive the tribes of the Sea of Sands pressure the Sand Knights in the southern lands. None of the Knights shall come to their aid. My agents shall rally the orcs from their caves in the mountains south of Two Oaks. With the gold and treasure they receive I shall have purchased their blood for Thyrm cause. I have hired assassins from beyond the Giants gate to take care of any unforeseen complications that might arrive in Two Oaks. They are skilled at using the shadows and night to eliminate those I choose, and shall be of value against Bloodcrown if needed. Your brother Haig is in control at Urnimek and all goes well under his leadership. The council at Broken Bluff shall not mobilize its force against us because of my agents in the city council. The will of Thyrm is strong. Bloodcrown will see the peril he is in, for with no fortifications to amass behind his rule is soon to end. Not even the meddler Isaac can interfere for he is bound by his word not to intercede. As I write this I have heard rumors that he probes the shadow around his bindings and sends messages to any fool that can read to take up his lost causes. None in my name shall attack his tower for this will free him of his word. A mighty threat he would be to the will of Thyrm. It is whispered that he was the one who slowed the Unholy Triads tide of minions and allowed the dwarf to escape in their flight from Norgrin. My order stand still, none of you shall enter the old Dwarven Mountain, for the perils are many and the Unholy Three still lay claim there. Do Thyrm biding and all shall feel the eternal winter of his grip. Vigor Edited by Adam B on Mar 22, 2007 11:19 PM |

Kilurt the dwarf fighter, Kaled the healer, Lefur the changed dwarf Knight, Sithic the cleric, Corasma the wizard, Corvis the elf fighter, and Ma?el the mystic packed up their sled and headed down the Wall Pass once again. Braving the severe winter the group traveled days until finally emerging fourth from the Wall Pass valley, the small group viewed for the first time the open plains ahead of them. What they saw was a huge swirling cloud mass moving in a counter clockwise above their heads, far in the distance they thought they could glimpse the vortex center. Aghast at the size of the dire storm the group paused in their travels. From the snow ahead of them an icy form appeared taking on the shape of an elder dwarf in battle scarred armor. The mirage appeared to point over the groups head toward the nearby mountain slopes. With a severe and angry gust of wind the snowy image was violently blown asunder. Taken as an omen the fellowship searched the landscape. Whereas the elf?s keen eye made out a stone structure hidden in the snow banks. The group made their way up the now apparent switchback toward the stone building. They soon found an ancient tavern. As they neared the frozen door some mentioned they could hear the sounds of laughter and merriment inside. Lefur opened the stuck door and the friends entered the tavern. Lefur viewed a cold empty tap room and was amazed as his companions entered and began to act weirdly. Some of the adventurers could clearly be heard to order food and drink to an empty room. Lefur perplexed steeped forth and encountered a slight resistance at the doorway, but prevailed and moved toward his friends. To his amazement he entered a busy tap room full of his friends and patrons. Thinking the cold was getting to his addled brain Lefur soon enjoyed the warmth of the fire and the flowing spirits. As the group warmed up they soon noticed the snow had disappeared from the outside landscape. Investigation found them free of the dire storm. With the sled secured in the barn the fellowship of seven was once again united in the tap room sharing food and drink with the bar keep Madge. Kaled shared with the group his feeling of powerful holy items located nearby. Madge soon validated Kaled?s feelings and told the group about two relics of the god Moridan located in the Tavern. One a piece of the skull of a Saint, the other the Saint?s large throwing boulder was nearby. Confused the group wondered about the relics. Madge yarned a tale about a Stone giant who was saved by a cleric of Moradin, and changed his ways. Through trial and error the giant gained paladin status. One day he fell in service fighting a blue dragon in defense of fleeing dwarfs. Moradin elevated the giant to sainthood and named him Saint Sonnlinor Stoneheart.
While examining the boulder from the outside one of the members noticed the barn door was open. Cursing, Madge stormed toward the barn with the adventurers in tow. The friends found their items ransacked and valuables missing; like the body of a fallen comrade, a set of mithrial armor and extra food stock. Madge pointed out footprints of Kolbolds leading toward the nearby well. In a rage the small group rushed toward the well. The first one down the ladder was a victim of a trap, and fell into the water. Soon the Knight jumped down after hearing the screams and sound of a battle. In the confusion a fireball was let lose, the Knight fought amphibious Chokers and chaos reigned. In the end the elf Corvis was eaten alive, but the area cleared. Lefur, Corvis, Ma?el, and Sithic continued down the aqueduct where they soon found a storage room. Even further down on the right side the fallenship noticed another half sealed service tunnel. Entering it the four adventurers were surprised as a ten by ten foot block slammed shut and water began to fill up the small passageway. Racing around the corners the group viewed another passageway painted with strange octopus headed creatures along both walls ending in a small room were a silver skeleton hovered in mid air. Thinking to escape the flooding hallway the cleric Sithic rushed toward the room. However soon after entering the passageway a ray shot out and stunned him. Not to be daunted the mystic from the desert Ma?el rushed pass Sithic and made it close to the opening before being stunned by a ray. Corasma and Lefur began to search the walls for a secret escape route. Sithic being stunned slightly moved next to Ma?el in the hall way. Noticing the water was not entering the room except in a small drainage line down the center of the room toward the Silver Skeleton. Fearing that Ma?el might drown in the rising water, Sithic picked up the mystic and pushed him into the vacant room. Except Ma?el encountered a gelatinous substance that engulfed him whole and before Sithic?s eyes Ma?el was dissolved away except for the metal he carried. Suddenly a different cube creature struck the cleric paralyzing the elf. Soon the ooze engulfed Sithic and he dissolved away to nothing. As the water neared the ceiling the Knight found a release mechanism and the stone block lifted. Lefur and Corasma bolted for the tavern and safety. |

After resting in the tavern the survivors shared their stories of the horrors below with the brew master Madge. He soon explained to the two the knowledge he knew about the aqueduct and the way the dwarf used these strange creatures to keep the ducts clear of derbies. When Madge heard the two friends mention the silver skeleton he was elated and shared another story. Only if the group would have questioned him prior to their hasty charge into the well, there would be more survivors. Yet Madge informed them of a tale about an unlikely servant of the goodly gods, an evil outsider turn to good with the help of her angelic angel lover. It was said that the succubus tricked its former lord onto the material plain and with the help of her lover defeated the dark lord casting him from this world for 1001 years. Madge implored the group to seek out the skeleton and bring it to the tavern. At this time a small crowd gathered from the back of the tavern. It was emissaries from the Kobold tribe demanding to be heard. Deals were struck and questions were asked among the two groups. The decision was called for the adventures to meet with the chief of their tribe to broker some sort of peace deal. Lefur asked for help from the patrons. A dwarf cleric of Moridan named Glanarian stood up with his companion a dwarf fighter named Torzen and pledged their beards to Lefurs cause. The three agreed to meet the Kobold chief Blas in his den.
In front of a massive sold gold throne the three dwarf allies stood before Blas. They made a deal with the dwarfs to appease the silver skeleton; the Kobolds believed it protected them. The three approached the trapped room and fought the cubes in side the flooded passageway. The battle was intense with the three almost succumbing to the onslaught. The dwarf Lefur could be heard swearing at someone named Corasma for hiding above in the tavern and not at his side. However they were victorious in the end. The three long beards gathered up the skeleton and returned to the tavern. Slowly the form a bat winged female emerged as the skin mended and healed. She regained her wits with the help of the relic skull cap and healing of the cleric of Moradin. The succubus told her story and asked for the return of her equipment from the Kobolds. The adventurers thought the items were locked away in the vault the tribe buried their ancient sorcerer in. |

So the group adventured down to recover the items. Many went down but a few returned with treasure and magic aplenty. Upon returning the survivors were asked to search for a missing patrol of Dwarfen miners. Three struck out north toward a valley that leads up toward a glaciered peak. On the trail they encountered a female elf noble that joined their cause. They soon came across a group of trolls lead by a hill giant, the swamp creatures carried heavy burdens upon their scaly backs. The group laid waist to the evil beasts and burned the creature?s packs and all, failing to search through the items. Early the next morning the group found the entrance to a newly carved structure in the side of a steep mountain side. Two double stone doors were guarded by a filthy giant.

The adventures assaulted the citadel slaying ogres, Hill Giants, and Frost giants along the way. Making their way through a den of Winter Wolves and the lair of a multi headed dragon the four souls started down a hall way when they all had a strange vision which convinced them to turn around. Making camp the fellowship were assaulted by ogres led by a single Frost giant. They were victorious. The next day the group encountered a Female frost giant and a dire polar bear which the slayed after a fierce battle. Making their way back toward the gates of the Frost Giant Citadel the group pondered the next move.

Having a plan to wait until night fall Lefur, Wolten, Corasma, and the female elf Lueatrilam headed to a nearby snow cave to rest. During their travels they meet up with others from the tavern. Kilurt, Ka?led, Torzen, and Glanarian soon stood together with Wolten, Lueatrilam, Lefur, and Corasma around a fire pit discussing their next move. Wolten soon went to task skinning the dire polar bear and winter wolf pelts. Lueatrilam spent time writing a report of their findings to send off to her kin and Dwarfen allies. Glanarian spent his time going over inventory and priestly duties. Torzen hunkered down in the snow just outside the cave to keep watch on the trail below the cave, preventing anyone to approach unnoticed. It was decided that Lefur would led Kilurt, Ka?led, and Corasma into the dark and see how close they could approach the gates to the frosty citadel. When the small scouting party reached the end of the tree line they observed some strange sights ahead. There could be seen five new encampments? north of the entrance. And the entrance was lit in an eerie bluish light for all to see. Pondering the meaning of the new camps the elf Corasma scouted ahead and observed huge humans with green hair and skin striking camp. Both he noticed dressed in armor similar to the knight Lefur. Not checking the rest of the camps the brave elf lost his courage and headed back to the small fellowship near the tree line. With a Dwarfen cry of now or never (blood before rust) the Knight decided it was time to assault the gates. Running out of the darkness the group caught the frost giant and his retinue of ogres unprepared with two powerful fire balls from Corasma all but one fell dead in the snow. The lone surviving Ogre ignoring the challenge of the Knight Lefur ran off to sound the alarm. The party rushed into the citadel and started to bar the door behind them, however the group was surprised to see the lone surviving ogre come flying threw a nearby doorway as if slapped like a red headed step child. A bellow spoken in Giant could be heard by Lefur, ?Dare thee to interrupt our vote creature?.

Finding themselves faced with a room of giants conducting some sort of conclave the brave Knight Lefur stepped forth to parley. Through diplomacy the fellowship determined that the council of giants was there to vote on the outcome of the child of the Frost Giant Jarl. The council voted for the death of the abomination. The Frost Giants, allied with the Fire Giants to make a stand against the pressure of the other Giant races. The council disbanded and made plans for war. None stood in the way of the fellowship as it moved on to finish the task set for them by the Tavern patrons. The four adventurers moved on to fight more Frost giants and the Fire Giant Ambassador. The quest ended in the Frost temple with the battle between the Jarl and the fellowship. Soon the warrior Kilurt fell and the rest were hard pressed, when an ally of the Giant some sort of tentacle creature showed and magically whisked the Jarl away. The survivors went about sacking the citadel and setting their alchemical charges to collapse the many passages. The friends traveled back to the Tavern, however on the way they were engulfed by a fierce snowstorm and found them selves back in the land of the dire winter. They took shelter in the tavern once again only to find it ancient battles cite. The group set off toward Two Oaks.

After weeks of travel the small survivors arrive in the small trade town of Two Oaks. The town of Two Oaks is a dreary place. Normally it is surrounded by forest, marsh, and an impassible river. Add the ?Dire Winter? and you have a once prosperous town slowly being strangled. The night and early mourning is thick with fog and the sound of wolves can be heard at all times. No one voluntarily leaves their shelter during the day and not at all during the night. The town militia no longer patrols and instead holds out at key points in the town around large blazing fires to keep warm. The last caravan rolled through here over eight months ago, and a few decided it best to hold up in the Dragon Codpiece Inn until the storms pass. Many curse the tall tower of Isaac because it is apparent the storm does not hold any sway around his small island in the Iceflow River. The Duke Bloodcrown seized those homes that were found to be hoarding food and sentenced them to indentured servitude. The food was given to the church of Pelor so it could be rationed out as they saw fit. The three major trade households wage an ever present war among themselves, only now tempered by the icy grip of the winter. One of the few sounds of enjoyment in this dark town can be heard coming from the Dragons Codpiece Inn. Why should the adventures care about the woes of this town? Maybe they shouldn?t. I guess the question is; where have all the heroes gone?

Ka?led has discovered the Elfen city at the base of Fortress Norsestrak is called Thaoth or translated into common as Vigilant Gate. Through his study he has discovered that this was the trade city that welcomed all goodly races and most likely near the main entrance to the Fortress.
Ka?led informed his companions that he was questing after lost relics of Pelor; the weapon ?Dawnstar?, and the holy symbol of Pelor revered as the ?Shard of the sun?. They were last seen in the service of two brothers named Habeeb and Qasim who were in the favor of their god Pelor before they fell near the city of Thaoth. It is said they were of an order known as ?Lightbringers? and had a hand in building the older temple found on the south side of Two Oaks. Arturus the Paladin, a new companion to the group has let it be known he came to this area in search of a weapon to help him fight the many undead things that roam his ancestral home lands. The weapon he is told is referred to as the ?Sunsword? and might be the very first Sun Blade ever created. He was told that it was last wielded by a Knight of the Raven. An order thought now to be extinct. He thinks the Knight was last recorded entering Fortress Norsestrak to battle some unknown evil. The group discovered that Duke Bloodcrown is willing to trade the Dwarfen Artifact ?Gildin? a pair of magical tongs only if the party can discover a means to save his walnut orchard from the ravages of the dire winter. The group still searches for an end to the dire winter. They soon discovered the town had supplies enough to last approximately 30 days before many start to go hungry. What could that vortex in the sky mean? What will happen to all the snow once the weather is returned to normal? Lefur with the death of Kilurt ponders the quest to find Fortress Norsestrak. Was the gathering of the lost artifacts from the kingdom of Norgrin a waste of time? Should he give consideration to his stranded clansmen at Trailsend? Since brokering a deal with Duke Bloodcrown to send a company of Knights to rescue the survivors of Brokenwagonwheelford and Stonewall Keep does this mean his responsibility is ended? What will be done with all the refugees once they arrive at Two Oaks? Why does he find himself staring at his sword? Is blue a color that fits him? Should he have alienated the two other Dwarfs in the small town? When a Dwarf has followed the ways of the humans since his birth where do his loyalties lay, with duty or the heart? Maybe he should choose. A letter the group recovered hinted at a danger waiting them in Two Oaks. Is the threat of an all out attack upon the city of Two Oaks from the minions of Vigor real? Could such an attack be orchestrated during the Dire Winter? By what type of army and from where would this attack come from? Should they deal with it or is that the duty of Duke Bloodcrown? |
