George R.R. Martin's A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE.
Experience with all D&D editions (i.e. I started with Basic D&D/1st and then went to 2nd and then 3rd and then partly 3.5), as well as other gaming mechanics like D.20's A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, DEAD INSIDE, ARDUIN, LEGEND OF THE FIVE RINGS, TOP SECRET/S.I. STAR TREK RPG (by Fasa which is probably now out of business), D.20 MODERN, HOLLOW EARTH EXPEDITION, D.20 PULP, TSR's ALTERNITY, CLASSIC DEADLANDS and WARHAMMER FANTASY ROLEPLAY (1st and 2nd edition). I have read the rules (or partially read them) and/or played the following games 1-2 times: RUNEQUEST, SHADOWRUN, USAGI YOJIMBO, CHAMPIONS, FANTASY HERO, GURPS, TRAVELER, CALL OF CTHULHU, STAR FRONTIERS, KING ARTHUR PENDRAGON, ARS MAGICA, IRON HEROES, WORLD OF DARKNESS, STAR WARS D.20, BASIC D.20, DARK HERESY, DOGS IN THE VINEYARD, BURNING WHEEL, SPACE OPERA, GAMMA WORLD, JAMES BOND, IRON HEROES, SPIRIT OF THE CENTURY, WORLD OF DARKNESS, IN A WICKED AGE, IN NOMINE, SAVAGE WORLDS and MUNCHKIN.
I prefer to play clever characters or those with very interesting backgrounds for character development. Games that are only about combat tend to get boring after a time. A GM who will let you solve a problem with something other thn violence is always appreciated.
D&D isn't really my game anymore (thought I do have a soft spot for PLANESCAPE) but I'll consider it if the GM has created an interesting world and his/her players are interesting as well. You have to remember that I've been playing D&D since I was a kid doing the boxed set so I've just about seen it all. Also, I prefer grittier fantasy settings so my focus in on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay these days. If I ever run another power gaming setting, though, I'll be sure to use D&D. :)
