I just thought I would point out that if you pre-order the D&D 4th Edition books, you can get them for pretty cheap. The average price is about $23 a book and at Amazon shipping is free as long as you spend more than $25. Hopefully it is okay for me to provide links to the books on Amazon.

MM: http://www.amazon.com...
DMG: http://www.amazon.com...

Even though I'm done with 3rd ed, and D&D, I might come back to it depending out 4rd ed is. I'm going to take a long look at it to see how it is when it's released.

Sad when 2 bucks a book is fairly cheap (Total 69...) guess we are all used to the gouging (I use that word in lieu of a four letter word that begins with R...) we are used to... 39 bucks and what not... Bah...

I just recently paid $40 for a black and white programming book. $23 for a full color book doesn't seem bad at all to me.

Edit: By the way, you save a few dollars and get a little slipcase if you purchase the gift set.

Yeah, that is what I had mentioned, the fact that we are so use to $39 dollar books, that we are happy with $23 dollar books... lol...

I thought it was kind of funny because when I bought the first edition hardcovers they were $12 a piece ($15 for the DMG). That was probably in 1980 and the books were all black and white no color. Then when I bought the 3rd edition hardcovers I got them on Amazon (new) and with postage they cost me about $16 each. BUT that was 23 years later and they were full color with shiny pages and covers. So basically the books got cheaper (after inflation) and better.

Now as far as 4th edition goes. We've got them at $62 for all 3 so around $21 per book (including free postage if you buy all 3). So that's an increase of $5 each after 5 years. But the condition is the same (color glossy). That doesn't seem all that bad. It's not the deal that 3rd edition was but not terrible. The part that's bad is that if I get 4th edition it will be the 3rd PHB, MM and DMG I've bought in 5 years and I already have 3 other editions of each book that I bought in the 80s.

Not trying to hijack this thread but....well, sure I'll hijack it, I will not be making the change to 4e. I have too much invested in 3.5 and with no backward compatibility or open gaming licenses, they lost my future money. That being said, I do like Paizo's product so far. I've printed and reviewed both alpha versions and plan to purchase the book once it releases in '09. It will be backward compatible and have an open gaming license. Paizo is poised to fill in the hole WoWC is self creating in the gaming market. I'm done hijacking the thread...sorry.

Even though I own 20-30 3.x hardcovers I had already given up on D20 and gone over to Green Ronin's True 20 system. It's a lot like 3.x just simpler and doesn't require you to carry around a 500lb case of books or take an hour to fight 3 goblins. 4th Edition sounds like it's heading that way too so I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually to see if I like it better.

Thanks for the linkage Paul. I'll be purchasing them, but I don't know how soon. Is P2 going to run a 4.0 game?

Yeah, I'll run a 4 Ed game, so we can playtest it a bit. I was reading something about how each class will have abilities which can help them heal. If that's the case, then no one would have to make a cleric just to survive. Even if it's not what I expect, I can come up with something to mitigate lack of healing. In other words, people can make whatever they want.
