Hey everyone,

I had so much fun lynching my fellow villagers on Sunday that I thought I'd see if there was a way to get my Werewolves fix between Meetups. There are actually a couple of different on-line versions; the one I picked is play-by-email as I think it is most like our current communication medium on the message board.

You can find the full instructions at the following site: http://www.gamerz.net...

Here's a summary of what you need to do.

The game is a little different from what we've been playing. The default game only has the seer - at night they will choose a player and find out if they are a villager or werewolf. Everything else works the way we are used to except that the werewolves win if there are as many of them as there are villagers (i.e. 2 werewolves and 2 villagers).

Here is a quick command summary:

Signup (see end of http://www.gamerz.net...)

send email to pbmserv AT gamerz DOT net (obfuscated to prevent spamming) a message with the subject:

signup USERID PASSWORD

It will send you an email from user 'esquire' asking you to confirm with a new email.

Send the confirmation to esquire AT gamerz DOT net with the confirmation command in the subject.

Join my game

My 'board' number is 362.

Send to pbmserv AT gamerz DOT net a message with the subject:

werewolf join BOARDID USERID PASSWORD ALIAS

(e.g. werewolf join 362 rmcarthur password cooper)

The other commands are similar:

At all times during the game, living players may send discussion that is broadcast to everybody.

Subject: werewolf chat BOARD USERID PASSWORD

Dead players may communicate among themselves with the haunt command.

Subject: werewolf haunt BOARD USERID PASSWORD

Each night, the werewolves select a victim.

Subject: werewolf kill BOARD USERID PASSWORD WHO

Werewolves communicate secretly at night with the howl command.

Subject: werewolf howl BOARD USERID PASSWORD

The seer casts runes to determine another player's role. That information is revealed at dawn.

Subject: werewolf info BOARD USERID PASSWORD WHO

Each day, the villagers are upset that there are werewolves on the prowl. So they call a meeting, and vote on whom to lynch (in the hopes that they get the werewolves). Every living player gets a vote.

Subject: werewolf vote BOARD USERID PASSWORD WHO

Voting will be based on Majority.

I'm waiting until Tuesday night, then we'll start the game as long as I have at least 8 players.

All,

Just to clarify, this is not a real-time online game. The game is meant to play over several days and will only go as fast as people are responding to their emails; so I will close joining at 9pm Tuesday, but then it's up to the werewolves to communicate and decide on a victim and the seer to choose someone to get info on; once they've done that the next day will begin.

So even if you are busy 9pm tomorrow, you can still join - just answer your email when you can. I expect that we'll probably see one turn every two days or so - depends how much time we spend debating.

I signed up for the game under the name "Morris" before I realized that everyone had cool villager occupation names. I tried a couple of times to change my character name, but no luck. Crap. angry

You could probably leave the game and then rejoin using a different name. Or you could say that you're an entertainer.

Yeah it doesn't look like there is any way of actually leaving the game. Nor is there a way of 'booting' someone, so once you've joined, you're in it for the duration. Don't worry I plan to run another one after this, so you can have a cool name then.

We're up to 6! Just two more people needed.

I figure let's keep the out-of-game chatter to this message thread.

So just to orient people with what I've discovered so far:

  • If your email client allows it, please send 'plain text' only, not rich text, not html, nor multi-part mime
  • Anything in the body of your email will be interpreted 'what you want to say' and the email will have a ** after it indicated there is text
  • The game summary normally comes first. You can flip it around using: werewolf set USERID PASSWORD comments top

As a final note, morris and the milliner seem to be using the exact same email client - I believe that's grounds for a lynching! devilish

Or you could say that you're an entertainer.

I actually saw some Morris Dancers practicing at Bloor & Spadina once. The winos who hang out there were completely baffled.

Hey RotW and Sandy can you guys RSVP as well?

As for everyone else, if you haven't already be sure to follow the instructions to create an account and then join the game. If we can hit at least 8 people by tonight at 9pm, I'll start the game. Otherwise, I'll move to meetup for one more night and continue doing so until we hit at least 8 people.

Molly, I know you were interested in playing...
