Any of you play Neverwinter Nights online? I'm referring to the first volume (as the second one is out but requires a massive computing system to run not to mention the reviews on it weren't as good). Anyway, it's an online video game based completely on the D&D rule system. It takes place in Forgotten Realms in the city of Neverwinter and later, in the expansion, in Undermountain beneath Waterdeep.
I was thinking that some of us could play an online version of D&D any ol' time if you would like, especially if you're like me and like to play more than once a month. The reason I choose Neverwinter Nights is because it will run on about anyone's system, it's cheap, and once you buy the game, it's free to play online (or even DM and create your own modules). The core game is great in and of itself but you have the option of downloading and playing user-created modules at will. If you're interested, check Amazon.com for Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition, which sells for about $20 for the core game plus the two expansions, which are really really good. Diamond edition is basically all the expansions on DVD ROM. If you're like me and run such an ancient computer that doesn't have a DVD ROM, you can get the Platinum edition, although for some odd reason it costs about $5 more. Most stores don't carry it anymore unless you can luck out and find it or a cheaper used copy but like I said, you can get it brand new off the internet. With the Diamond or Platinum edition, there is no level cap - I once leveled a fighter up to level 24, for example. I'll be running a server using the original game and I'll call the server "Columbus" so if you want to join in, try connecting to that server. If it isn't up and running, just start the original story with the server name "Columbus" so we can all get on the same page. Whenever I play it, that will be the name I use with no password. If we can get enough of us playing, maybe the server will end up being live a few nights of the week. This is a great way for us to play D&D together more often and without having to travel. Hope to see some of you there. If you're interested and you have any questions, feel free to post. See you at the next game! |
